“Next time you find yourself in a standoff with your child, ask yourself, what would you do if you weren’t afraid?” -Sarah Rosensweet
I’m pretty sure that when my kids were small, a lot of people around me thought I was a pushover.
…That I was coddling them.
…That I should be harder on them.
…That I shouldn’t “give in.”
But I was NEVER afraid that my peaceful strategies weren’t going to work out.
Everything I did came out of trusting that they wanted to be good and trusting the process of their growth.
Now, don’t think I’m perfect or that I think I’m perfect.
And it’s not like I didn’t have my days and years of overwhelm when they were little!
It’s just that this aspect of peaceful parenting came really naturally to me.
I pretty nearly always chose love rather than fear, at least with my kids.
I trusted that they wanted to be good and that they would learn what they needed to learn.
I wasn’t afraid to choose love.
And you know what?
I think it worked 🙂
The “kids” are now 15, 18 and 21 and they are pretty stellar humans.
(You can hear them on podcast episodes #1 and #80 about being raised with peaceful parenting)
Next time you find yourself in a standoff with your child, ask yourself, what would you do if you weren’t afraid?
:: Afraid that you need to hold the limit no matter the cost.
:: Afraid of what people will think.
:: Afraid of how they might turn out.
:: Afraid that you need to “do something!”
What if you could TRUST in the process and choose radical love?
I can’t wait to hear what happens when you do.
